Media Tracking in the ATmosphere

Books, movies, TV and games - so any medias!

There's a few different tracking-type apps in the ATmosphere, though the biggest ones right now (in my opinion) are Popfeed and BookHive. Neither of them are perfect, by any means and both don't seem to go through many improvements. I also think one outshines the other, simply for the types of media you can track. So, let's get into my stuff on these two platforms.

I'm not a huge fan of BookHive and I always forget to add the books I'm reading here (plan to work on updating that today...). Checking in today, one of my biggest pet peeves that makes me scratch my head, it seems to somehow import my shelves from Popfeed (because I definitely didn't add any on BookHive) and yet it doesn't import any of the media I've tracked on Popfeed and there is absolutely no import from Popfeed option, so... *scratching my head*. It also shows me as having read audiobooks when I most definitely have not and I don't know why I can't change it. Ultimately, I'm on BookHive but I don't really recommend it...

The biggest negative to Popfeed is that it seems to not be updated very often and people complain about it, a lot! They were making tons of changes a few months ago and then everything just kinda stopped. That being said, I love that you can track literally everything - books, movies, music, TV shows and even video games you're playing. They used to let you crosspost your reviews to Leaflet (although annoyingly you can't delete or add tags to those reviews now...). There's definitely room for improvement but I've managed to keep up with tracking every movie and book I've consumed in 2026, so there's that...

There are a couple other tracking apps in this vein in the ATmosphere but I've used them far far less. Collective Social is one but I didn't really enjoy the experience there. Again, a lot of these apps seem to have been created and then abandoned or at least not updated in quite awhile. Hopefully as we all start using them more, we'll see more improvement or maybe something new will burst onto the scene. For now, I'm sticking with Popfeed!

Remember you can check the ATmosphere tag to see more of the apps I'm using on ATproto. Also, if you think there's an app I should check out, comment and let me know!
